In the Autumn of 2022 I worked with director Ella Marchment to design the set and costume for The Nose. An opera which depicts social status in St Petersburg, Russia in the 1800, depicted through the loss of ‘the nose’ of the main character Kovalev. My approach was to create a backroom appearing space that would allow the story to be told from a familiar feeling space to the audience to allow the audience to feel immersed. I used a mix of levels and the use of casting dogs to depict the
differences and enhance the social class aspect of the design.

COSTUME DESIGN
The idea for the costume designs was to keep the costumes as a collective not using many bright or vibrant colours keeping the collective looking softer this allows the vibrancy of the space to stand out. The idea for my dog costume designs was to represent ‘the nose’ whose emotion lay upon the breed of dog on stage.
